911 call leads to arrest; narcotics recovered

Sheriff Kevin W. Windham reports the arrest of Nickolas Shane Matthews, 22, of Joaquin.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023 at approximately 7 a.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications Division received a 9-1-1 call in regards to a man with a gun. SCSO investigators and deputies responded to the residence located on Faulkville Road in Joaquin. After three hours of trying to make contact with Matthews, SCSO investigators, deputies,  DPS officers, and Constable Roy Cheatwood entered the home and located Matthews.

Law enforcement officers were granted permission to search the home by the homeowner. The search produced narcotics believed to be 271 grams of xanax, seven (7) grams of methamphetamine, 5.8 ounces of marijuana, one ( 1) gram of ecstasy, packaging material for the distribution of narcotics and an AK-47.

Matthews was arrested and charged with Delivery of Controlled Substance (F-1); POCS (F-2); POCS (F-3); Unlawful Carry of a Weapon by a Felon (F-2); Delivery of Marijuana (SJF),and Assault (M-A).
