The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has recently taken a complaint of political campaign signs being stolen.
Formal charges have not been filed on anyone,; however, as the election date approaches, the number of political sign theft tends to increase, according to SCSO.
“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community that taking a political sign qualifies as theft, which, obviously, is a criminal offense,” the release states.
The Texas Penal Code defines the offense of theft as “A person commits an offense if he unlawful appropriates property with intent to deprive the owner of property.”
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone who sees a theft in progress to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 936-598-5601.
